According to TechRadar, the handset has been put through its paces by a Russian reviewer, courtest of a preview unit. He discovered an Android handset as expected, but only Android 2.1, although it’s likely to launch with Android 2.2 early in 2011, with an Android Gingerbread (2.3) upgrade to follow.

Features include a large 4.3-inch LCD display, an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor and a 12-megapixel camera, the latter able to record 720p video. Aside from report of the Qualcomm chipset being ‘nippy’, that’s pretty much all we have.

Sales of LG Optimus One hit a million worldwide

LG Electronics (LG) today announced that worldwide sales of its Optimus One smartphone have hit one million units just 40 days after the phone’s initial launch. The Optimus One is the fastest selling mobile handset in the company’s history.

Powered by the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and optimised for Google Mobile Services, the LG Optimus One is targeted at first-time smartphone buyers looking for high performance and useful applications, but at a competitive price compared with feature phones.

‘The versatile, powerful LG Optimus One was designed to provide an easy transition into the world of smartphones and as these numbers demonstrate, there is obviously a strong demand for this type of device,’ said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. ‘Optimus One seems to be what many customers were waiting for, proving that smartphones aren’t just for early adopters anymore.’

One of the first smartphones to launch with Google’s latest operating system, the Optimus One allows for up to three times faster internet browsing, web page loading, and multitasking. The Optimus One also incorporates a unique LG designed user interface (UI) along with a camera that features face tracking and smile shot, a 3.2-inch wide HVGA screen and a long-lasting 1500mAh capacity battery.

LG is rolling the device out around the world. The Optimus One is expected to be available via 120 carriers and partners. LG expects Optimus One to be its first smartphone to shift 10 million units.
